DAY 1 We set off today for Derbyshire and our lovely hotel on the edge of the Peak District, with a stop at Millets Farm Centre for lunch en route. We arrive with time to settle in before this evening’s meal.
DAY 2 After breakfast this morning we head off to the delightful town of Bakewell, with its medieval stone bridge, quaint courtyards and mellow stone buildings. Legend has it that the town’s famous Bakewell Pudding was created by mistake by a local cook in the mid-19th century. Today her delectable ‘jam tart that went wrong’ can be sampled at various bakeries and cafés in the town. After time to explore this lovely market town, we then make our way to the magnificent and stately Chatsworth House which is renowned for its art, landscape and hospitality, and has evolved through the centuries to reflect the tastes, passions and interests of succeeding generations of the Devonshire family. Works of art on display span 4,000 years, and there are also 105 acres of wonderful gardens to explore during your visit.
DAY 3 Today we head to the elegant spa town of Buxton, renowned for its Georgian and Victorian architecture. We visit the Buxton Crescent Experience for a tour which gives you a lovely introduction to the elegant past of the town with an interactive experience in nine intimate rooms inside the iconic Grade I listed Buxton Crescent, telling the stories of Buxton, The Crescent, its famous water and the many people who came to seek its cure. This afternoon, we take a trip on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, Derbyshire’s longest heritage railway, from Wirksworth to Duffield.
DAY 4 This morning we head to the home of the world-famous Wedgwood Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent for a behind-the-scenes experience where we discover how Wedgwood is designed, created and crafted. Marvel at the extraordinary skills of the talented workers who cast, glaze, decorate and gild in the original 1940s working factory. During our visit, we will enjoy a lovely cream tea before exploring the V&A Wedgwood Collection, the museum of Wedgwood’s design history and creative future located at the heart of the Potteries. There will also be time to visit the on site retail stores at your leisure.
DAY 5 Today we head home, with stops en route, arriving back in the early evening.
