DAY 1 We set off this morning for our hotel in Caernarfon, with comfort stops en route for you to stretch your legs and get refreshments, arriving in time to settle in before our evening meal.
DAY 2 Today we head to Llandudno to enjoy all the festivities of the Victorian Extravaganza and Transport Festival. It takes over the main streets of Llandudno for the weekend bringing vintage attractions, entertainment and fun fairs. There is a daily parade of participating vehicles (including many steam tractors and wagons), brass bands and carnival troupes, together with citizens in Victorian and Edwardian costumes. The parade travels through the town streets via the promenade, but it is the great Victorian steam fair, the length and breadth of the main shopping street with its multitude of rides and catch-penny booths, which gives that extra feel of the Victorian era, especially with period music from the magnificent showman’s organ, one of several playing traditional ditties. There are also many restaurants to have lunch in and shops to browse. You may also like to take a ride on the tram to the top of the Great Orme, with stunning views across the bay.
DAY 3 Today you have the option to head back to the fantastic entertainment in Llandudno for the day, to enjoy more of the Victorian Extravaganza. Alternatively, you might prefer a day of leisure where you can explore the delights of Caernarfon itself. Mighty Caernarfon Castle commands the lion’s share of attention, and this UNESCO World Heritage Site is recognised around the world as one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages, and is only a few hundred yards away from the hotel. The castle, built in the 13th century by Edward I as a royal palace and military fortress, was at the core of a medieval walled town. The Romans left their mark too – 1000 years earlier they constructed their fort of Segontium on the hill above (its foundations still exist). Caernarfon’s narrow streets and stylishly redeveloped waterfront also merit a visit, or you may prefer to take advantage of the leisure facilities at the hotel today and perhaps enjoy time in the indoor heated pool, bubble pool, steam room, sauna or fitness suite. The choice is yours!
DAY 4 Today we leave Wales behind as we head for home, with stops en route, arriving back in the early evening.
