DAY 1 We set off this morning for our four night stay at the beautiful Abbey Hotel in Great Malvern. En route, we stop in Worcester where you have time to explore this historic town with its magnificent cathedral where King John was laid to rest. We then continue on to our hotel with time to settle in before our evening meal.
DAY 2 This morning we head to the tranquil riverside town of Tewkesbury. We explore this Cotswolds medieval market town’s rich, vibrant history by taking a guided tour of the 900 year old Abbey with its fine Norman tower, ornate 12th century ceiling and beautiful stained glass windows. During your visit you could also indulge in some retail therapy in the town’s great mix of High Street shops and independent retailers, or perhaps head to one of the town’s museums, cafés or tea rooms.
DAY 3 After breakfast this morning, we head off to Eastnor Castle, an enchanting castle at the foot of the Malvern Hills. Surrounded by a beautiful deer park, arboretum and lake, Eastnor Castle is the home of the Hervey-Bathurst family. During your visit you will have a tour of the castle with one of their experienced guides. See the magnificent State rooms, enjoy the stunning Drawing Room, decorated to the designs of AW Pugin, explore the fascinating Long Library and imagine relaxing over billiards in the Little Library. We head back to our hotel this afternoon, where you have free time to explore Great Malvern itself at your own pace. Perhaps take a walk through the Winter Gardens, visit the historic Priory or enjoy time at leisure in the hotel before this evening’s dinner.
DAY 4 This morning we head to the historic city of Hereford, situated on the banks of the River Wye. We start off with a guided tour of Hereford Cathedral. Explore the rich history and treasures of the cathedral from its Saxon origins to the present day. Enjoy architecture, artefacts and anecdotes and learn how it has developed through time. The cathedral is also home to the Mappa Mundi, Hereford’s famous medieval map, and the chained library – your visit includes access to these exhibitions. We then have time in Hereford for lunch, before heading back to the hotel via the market town of Ledbury.
DAY 5 It is time to head homewards today, with stops on the way.
