DAY 1 We set off early this morning for our ferry crossing from Dover to Dunkirk and then continue our journey into Holland for our four night stay at our hotel situated just outside Utrecht in the Dutch countryside, with its lovely forest views.
DAY 2 Today we make our way to the 17th century Palace of Het Loo, the largest estate in Holland. This former royal residence has been open to the public since undergoing substantial restoration work in 1984, and was originally built as a summer palace and hunting lodge by Stadtholder Willem III and Princess Mary. The sumptuously furnished interiors give an impression of how the Dutch royal family lived here for three centuries. A guided tour of the Palace is included in your visit, and you will have time to explore the magnificent gardens, restored as a perfectly symmetrical 17th century baroque form full of special plants, flowers, cascades and high fountains. You can also find out more about the history in the exhibition ‘The House of Orange-Nassau’, see Stables Square with its Coach House exhibiting Royal carriages, and maybe enjoy a coffee in the historical gardens.
DAY 3 After breakfast this morning we head to Rotterdam, a major port and the second-largest city in the Netherlands. Here, we will board our boat for our 75 minute pancake cruise! Sail along on the Meuse River where you will have a magnificent view of the imposing skyline. Discover the city and its famous and bold architecture from the water while feasting on traditional old Dutch pancakes. In a casual atmosphere, enjoy unlimited fresh-baked pancakes and decorate them with numerous toppings, from sweet to savoury. We then head up the Euromast and Euroscoop, where you will have the best 360 degree views of Rotterdam from 185 metres above the city.
DAY 4 We make a morning visit to Royal Delft Pottery, the last remaining maker in the region. The informative museum charts over 350 years of history of porcelain production on the site. This afternoon we visit The Hague, home to the Dutch Parliament and the Royal Family. This elegant city boasts world class galleries and museums, grand architecture and a vibrant café culture for you to explore at your leisure.
DAY 5 We set off after breakfast this morning to Dunkirk for the short Channel crossing to Dover and then home.
